History
Since 1965 our story has always been one of caring; born out of concern that Anna, a young girl who used a wheelchair, couldn't go with other children to see the movie Mary Poppins at a local theatre. Originally founded as United Cerebral Palsy of Lancaster County, the name was changed in 2000 to United Disabilities Services to better reflect our expanded capabilities. Today UDS serves 30 counties throughout Pennsylvania, with a wide variety of quality in-home personal care, support services, and community-based programs. Last year we provided over 400,000 hours of direct-care services to more than 2,500 clients, allowing them to live happier, more independently, and in control of the decisions that affect their lives.Big hearts and innovative spirit
We take our commitment to improving people's lives very seriously. We are continually creating new and better ways to make a difference; working hard to balance our mission focus with our business focus. It is through the efficient operation and continuing financial health of our organization that we are able to help more people with more services. And thanks to the innovative spirit of our employees, UDS was recognized by the Central Penn Business Journal as one of the region's most innovative nonprofit organizations. Most recently, UDS was recognized by the Samaritan Counseling Center by receiving their annual "Ethics in Business Award."
